Standing Calf Raise
A classic calf exercise where you raise your heels from a standing position to train the calves (gastrocnemius).
Beginner · Recommended Sets: 3-4 sets x 15-20 reps · Calves
Standing Calf Raise — Points to Check Today
- Use the full range of motion — Lower all the way to stretch and raise all the way for it to be effective. (Bobbing through a short range with momentum only)
- Squeeze for 1 second at the top — Calves recover fast, so pauses and high reps work well. (Bouncing with momentum so the tension is lost)
- Move only at the ankle — Don't add momentum by bending and extending your knees. (Bending the knees to lift with leg strength)
Standing Calf Raise — How to Do It / If You're New
- Load the weight onto your shoulders via the pads (or use dumbbells/a machine) and place the balls of your feet on the edge of the platform.
- Lower your heels below the platform to stretch your calves fully.
- Push through the balls of your feet to raise your heels as high as possible and pause 1 second at the top.
- Lower slowly to stretch again and repeat.
